If you’re in Osaka, you might have heard of an area called Kitashinchi. This is a popular area for businessmen to go and enjoy some female company. Hostess bars, clubs, and lounges are a thriving industry in this part of town.

But, you will notice something else if you hang around long enough…

THAT’S AN ODD COUPLE...

After a long workday, my coworkers and I went to a bar called Captain Kangaroo, on the outskirts of Kitashinchi.

As I sit outside Captain Kangaroo, enjoying a refreshing Asahi beer, I watched the businessmen and women bustling by. I saw drunk businessmen stumbling along the streets trying to get to the train station. I heard hostesses coming out of lounges and bars thanking their happy customers with a smile, soft voice, and a deep bow. (Ah, Japan. I love it.)

When suddenly, I noticed something at the corner of my eye. I saw a well-dressed older gentleman (early 50’s) in the company of a beautiful, young girl - walking side by side.

This was different from the hostess bar vibe.

She was wearing an elegant red dress with matching high heels. I watched other men, stop and look over her way as she walked down the street. They were probably thinking what I was thinking, “Why is she with that old man?”

“Are they on a date? This is so strange” I thought to myself.

The first time I saw this, I was puzzled - and naturally, I came to an immediate conclusion.

“Oh, it’s just an old rich guy paying that young woman for sex.”

I was wrong... They were on a date.

In Japanese, it is called Papakatsu. (パパ活)

In English, it is called Sugar Daddy Dating.

WHAT IS SUGAR DADDY DATING (SUGAR DATING)?

Firstly, sugar dating is generally dating with a lower risk of “drama”. Wealthy men are paying to meet, and date younger women (usually in their 20’s). The men will pay a monthly allowance and shower girls with gifts, dinner, and flowers. In exchange, the girls go out with them on a date. No strings attached.

Sex is optional. (and I'll explain the rules in a second and how sugar dating works in Japan.)

I know this sounds strange, but it is a growing trend around the world. Due to the inflation of university education and increased living costs, young women are moving towards sugar dating to fund their lifestyle.

To understand the concept of sugar dating, let’s start with the two terms you will encounter: Sugar Daddy and Sugar Baby.

SUGAR DADDY

A sugar daddy is a gentleman who wants to date younger women, without the commitment of a long-term girlfriend or marriage. They are most commonly in their mid-40’s to 60’s, and have disposable income from a high paying job or owning a company. They have super busy schedules and want to spend their free time with a young, sexy female companion.

SUGAR BABY

Sugar babies are young women who are looking for a gentleman to support them financially, occasionally shower them with gifts, and go to expensive dinners. They are in their 20’s or 30’s and need that extra income. Most sugar babies do it to pay off student debts, bills, and rent etc.

HOW IS SUGAR DADDY DATING DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR DATING?

While it’s obvious that one of the big differences is the exchanging of money, another difference is that you have to be upfront and direct about what you want in the relationship from the first date or meeting.

For example:

1. You want someone just to have dinner with.

2. You want someone who is blonde and has blue eyes.

3. You want someone to have intimate relationships with.

4. You want someone for sex and to take on vacations.

Thanks to the wonders of the internet - there are companies that help you organize your sugar dating experience. Around the world, there are numerous sugar dating sites popping up and the trend is growing.

While there are mixed reviews about sugar dating around the world (of course..), there have been positive comments coming from sugar daddies and sugar babies about their unusual relationships.

There are 2 ways for you to get a Japanese sugar baby. Doing it yourself, or using a Japanese Sugar Dating Agency. I’ll explain how to do each.

DOING IT YOURSELF

There are ways to become a sugar daddy in Japan without relying on a dating site or agency - but they are challenging, and difficult to initiate. Here’s a simple 3-step guide:

STEP 1: FINDING A GIRL THAT IS SUGAR BABY MATERIAL

This is important. Imagine having to meet women and then asking them if they want to have a sugar-dating type relationship. The rejection would be horrific and repetitive. The issue is whether you are able to find ladies who want to participate in this type of a relationship.

When you find the right person and you know, from your sources, that they are looking for a sugar daddy; move on to step 2.

STEP 2: RESEARCHING ABOUT YOUR POTENTIAL JAPANESE SUGAR BABY

You have to know EVERYTHING about the person you are meeting.

As the Sugar Daddy, you want to know:

・What is your sugar baby’s personality? (Is she too shy? Too talkative?)

・What are your sugar baby’s body measurements? (Bust size? Cup size? Hip measurement?)

・How tall is she?

・How much does she weigh?

・Is she cute? Is she pretty?

・How does she dress?

・Does she work out and exercise?

・What else do you want in a sugar baby?

Obviously, you won’t be able to find out everything. That’s the purpose of the first date!

STEP 3: ORGANIZE THE FIRST DATE AND TELL THEM WHAT YOU WANT

Once you find someone who is compatible, you have to organize a meeting time and place for your first date.

At this point, you want to have strict guidelines on what you want out of this relationship. Tell them what you want, and find out what they want.

1. Do you want a romantic relationship over dinner?
2. Do you just someone to date and enjoy their company?
3. Do you want a sexual relationship?

Assuming that you both agree on the terms, the sugar daddy should be prepared to tell the sugar baby how much they will give as an allowance, etc.

If you can't come to an understanding, you will have to end it there and start back at step 1.

A WORD OF CAUTION

Scams are a potential risk in this type of exchange. The sugar baby can scam the sugar daddy (usually asking for money before the first date, and not showing up) OR the sugar daddy scams the sugar baby (the only instance I’ve heard is a sugar daddy having dinner and bailing out on the sugar baby with a 20,000 yen bill).

There is a level of uncertainty in finding someone who wants to be in a sugar dating relationship, and not knowing what type of person they really are. Imagine finding out that your sugar baby is a gold digger or a call girl. This is unsettling, and that’s why I recommend using a Japanese Sugar Dating Agency.

Sugar Dating Services in Japan will handle all of the searching and researching. While you just have to pay a fee, pick what type of Japanese sugar baby you want, and go on your first date.

Once, the interview is complete, Universal Club will share their guidelines to the client. If the client agrees with the services, they will be asked to register.

FINDING YOUR PERFECT JAPANESE SUGAR BABY

After completing your registration, you will have access to the Universe Club membership area.

Sugar daddies will be able to review profiles of Japanese sugar babies that are available nearby. You will be able to watch videos, see what they are like based on the interview, etc. Sugar babies will also be able to see profiles of Sugar daddies but only those who picked them.

4. UC tells the sugar daddy about the availability of the sugar baby.
5. UC will organize the date.
6. 1-day before the date, UC will give the sugar daddy’s contact information to the sugar baby.
7. On the day of the date, both the sugar daddy and sugar baby will go to the meeting location. The sugar baby will call the sugar daddy and meet face to face.
